Homan Göteborg is an idealistic association. The board of directors is in Göteborg.
We are a group of people who work in order to promote equality and human rights, i.e to get possibilities to love and live with a person of the same sex and to be accepted for this of relatives, friends and fellow workers. We also work for transpersons and transsexual persons in order to display their situation. We work against honour related violence and support persons who are subjected to oppression and threat in families and from those around them.
We inform about safer sex. We want to help immigrants, both men and women, to learn how to protects themselves against HIV and other sexually transmittable diseases. Where you can address yourself to get information and help to take HIV tests etc.
We want to get in connection with you who do not dare and not usually turns to the establised organisations.
We will also help to distribute condoms and give information to you, who secretly meet other men and in that way is exposed to the risk of being infected. In many cultures is it not obviously to protect yourself at intercourse. There is a need for additional efforts and information to you who lives like that.
We work for support to fellow immigrants, information and help to who belongs to these vulnerable bi- and homosexual groups and also to heterosexuals.
We arrange special feature evenings and lectures.
We carry on visiting work and activities.
We carry on preventive work concerning HIV and venereal diseases.
We carry on telephone answering service/fellow-being on duty.
We participate in community radio broadcasting and other mass media, like Riksradion and magazines. It is also important to advertise in different daily papers, so you can get information where you can turn concerning HIV.
We carry on collaboration with other organizations.
Scenes and target groups:
There are meeting places among others in public baths around in the country where you can tie certain connections with other immigrant men. Many of these men are married and hiding themselves because of their homo- and bisexuality. Video clubs where you can meet anonymously and get your needs satisfied. Our purpose is to contact you and give support and information about HIV, contraceptive and so on.
In the parks there are also opportunities to tie connections secretly.
In the summer there are many different bathing beaches for homo- and bisexual män. There are also many nudist bathing beaches for these men.
In all these places that are mentioned above there is a lot of work to do with information to the different ethnic groups. Many of these different groups have difficulties to give full expression to their homo- and bisexuality in an open and natural way.
Private persons who are interested in supporting the association can become members
The association is politically and religiously uncommitted, but the association is open to receive support (of different kinds) from all organizations (also religious and political) as long as the support is not affecting the purposes and activities of the association.
Telephone hours Wednesdays between 20.00 – 22.00. Homan answers all questions concerning homosexuality, venereal diseases and so on. You can be anonymous if you want to!
